Police have made what may have been the largest drug bust in Icelandic history, seizing an estimated 80 kilos of powdery white substance and arresting a couple who arrived by ferry.

RÚV reports that the couple were arrested last Tuesday shortly after their arrival by ferry in Seyðisfjörður. Police report that the still-unidentified drugs were found in the RV they brought with them, and were not hidden especially well.

The couple have reportedly been flown to the capital. They have been questioned, but have not confessed. The man in the couple is currently at the Litla Hraun prison, and both people have been forbidden from leaving the country for the next two weeks.

It is not known who the couple were coming to meet, if anyone. They have reportedly never visited Iceland before, and no Icelanders have yet been questioned in connection to the case.

More details will be posted as new information comes in.
