The city council has approved Mayor Jón Gnarr’s proposal of reconsidering Reykjavík’s partnership with Moscow, on account of the Russian capital’s stance on gay rights, Visir.is reports.
The proposal was approved at a council meeting on Thursday and the city’s lawyer and the city manager assigned to draw up a procedure of how to alter or cancel the agreement which was signed in 2007, making Reykjavík and Moscow sister cities.
Independence Party’s counsellors did not object to the proposal but wanted it noted that the matter should be carefully considered and not done in haste.
