In its meeting last Wednesday, the City Council agreed that children (specified as those of 18 years or younger) will have access to the pool for free this summer. From June 19th to August 31st, children will be able to enjoy Reykjavík’s pools at no cost. Seven pools can be found inside the city limits, so children of any neighbourhood should be able to take full advantage of this new regulation.
“All of you without a pool just throw stones, and that’s not good for Reykjavík,” says Jón Gnarr, newly elected mayor. It seems that the wellbeing of Reykjavík’s residents was a driving force for this legislation.
This summertime proclamation, consistent with the proposed agenda from the Best Party and Social Democrat coalition, is the first of many anticipated actions from the city’s new majority.
