Public Health Alert: Salmonella Found in Chicken

Published March 10, 2009

Salmonella bacteria has been found in some chicken produced by Reykjagarður, according to a statement issued by the company. Chicken is still being tested at the University of Iceland, and cases of poisoning are being monitored for at the National Hospital.
Reykjagarður has already began a recall, but if you find or have bought chicken produced by this company bearing the serial number 002-09-05-4-04, customers are asked to contact the company at sala@holta.is or 575 6445 in order to receive information on where you can return the product.
The statement adds that as long as chicken is properly handled and fully cooked, there is little danger of contracting salmonella poisoning.
