It’s been a wild week, and the weekend in Reykjavík promises to be even wilder—for those who watch Eurovision and for those boycotting the event alike. Here’s what’s on:
Friday:
Flóran Café, 21:00, 2,199 ISK
The incomparable Bríet will be performing at Flóran Café, arguably one of Reykjavík’s best cafés, right in the heart of the Botanical Gardens. Doors open at 21:00. Order a table at the café and get your tickets at tix.is.
Saturday:
Tjarnarbíó, 19:00, Free
Sure, you could watch Eurovision on your laptop through tinny speakers. Or you could go to Tjarnarbíó at 19:00 to hear Hugleikur Dagsson and Jonathan Duffy, the duo who comprise Icetralia, offer real-time commentary and snark during a free screening of the Eurovision finals. Best of all, there’s a bar there, perfect for celebrating or deadening the pain of some of the entrants.
Húrra, 20:00, Free
If you’re not a Eurovision enthusiast, or are one of the many who believe Iceland should have boycotted the event, then this is the venue for you. Apart from being a fun get-together, it will also features Palestinian-Jordanian rapper Synaptik – سينابتيك, and Syrian-Filipino Chyno.
Sunday:
May 18-26, Hamraborg, Free
Sigurrós Guðbjörg Björnsdóttir and Berglind Erna Tryggvadóttir take Icelandic food, baking, and tradition and turn it into pop photography and bright art.
