Poliçagate: “…sometimes circumstances occur in life that make a happy ending impossible.”

As we reported yesterday, Minneapolis hipstergazewave newcomers Poliça (finally learned to make that weird ‘c’ thing!) have cancelled their anticipated appearance at Iceland Airwaves 2012 with but a week’s notice, drawing the ire of the festival’s organisers as well as Iceland’s “hip youth demographic” with little explanation. The band has now released a statement on its website apologising to Icelandic fans for its failure to appear at the “Iceland Airways” festival, revealing that scheduling conflicts and an opportunity to record promo spots with Jools Holland and the BBC were their reason for bailing out at the last minute.

The statement reads thusly:

Sincere Apologies to Our Fans in Iceland

I regret to say that Poliça will not be able to play the 2012 Iceland Airways Festival. A series of unfortunate circumstances related to our upcoming European tour have led us to this decision….Last minute additions to our schedule for Jools Holland and BBC performances, as well as the addition of my three year old daughter to the touring party, have made it impossible in many ways to make the trip to Iceland possible. We take our work seriously and respect and appreciate our fans greatly but sometimes circumstances occur in life that make a happy ending impossible.

I don’t want  to get involved with a public argument with Iceland Airways, or anyone else for that matter. On behalf of the band, I apologize to the fans and hope you will forgive us, and allow us to come back and make it up to you someday.

Sincerely,

Channy Leaneagh

While we at the Grapevine are disappointed to miss an opportunity to view Poliça at the Art Museum, we totally understand that it’s a band-eat-band world out there, and that as a musician one must often put the needs of ones career and buzz-status over inconsequential trivialities such as “honouring ones commitments.”

Keep it real, Poliça.
