Kammerkór Suðurlands (The Chamber choir of South Iceland), introduce their latest CD of sacred music at Landakotskirkja, Reykjavík’s Catholic Church, today Thursday 14th. Coinciding with Airwaves, the concert will feature four works from the CD ‘Iepo Oneipo’ (Sacred Dream) as well as two Icelandic works. The album features the work of the English composer Sir John Tavener, who has established an international reputation as one of the foremost English composers of his generation.

Three soloists; Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir, mezzo-soprano, Hrólfur Sæmundsson, baritone and Margrét S. Stefánsdóttir, soprano, join the choir, along with a twenty five piece orchestra under concertmaster Hjörleifur Valsson.

Kammerkór Suðurlands, founded by conductor Hilmar Örn Agnarsson in 1997, is made up of professional and amateur musicians from the south of Iceland.  The choir has a repertoire of both sacred and secular music and has performed widely in Iceland and also abroad. ‘Iepo Oneipo’, the choir’s fourth CD has already been gathering impressive reviews internationally, and is available on the Smekkleysa label.
