The editorial office of Já, the company that publishes the phone book, has offered its customers two types of stickers to cover the image of Egill “Gillz” Einarsson – who is being investigated for rape – on the cover of the phone book.
Gillz, whose fame is based largely on a men’s blog he wrote some years ago, was asked to be the “editor” of the phone book last year, which sparked a public reaction of protest. This was due in part to the fact that Gillz has often played up to the stereotype of the hnakki – a perpetually tan, club-going misogynist gym rat – and has also written blog posts stating that specific female politicians needed to be raped. Gillz has contended that this was meant to be comedy.
Gillz himself now stands accused of rape: last month charges were filed against him and his girlfriend, which police are currently investigating. Later on last January, another woman stepped forward, also accusing him of rape. Police are currently investigating that matter as well. Gillz has denied the charges against him.
However, Vísir reports that Guðrún María Guðmundsdóttir, the editor of Já, told reporters that her company will be offering their customers two types of stickers that can be placed over the image of Gillz on the cover of the latest phone book.
Guðrún would not say what led to the decision nor how many people have requested the stickers, but that “the stickers are available for any of our customers who want them.”
