The sole resident of the island of Æðey, the largest of the four islands in the northwestern fjord of Ísafjarðardjúp, intends to spend Christmas by himself, quoting Páll Óskar to clarify his position to the Icelandic press.
Ólafur Ragnarson has only been living on Æðey for about a month. The island serves as a meteorological observation station, and it is Ólafur’s job to monitor the weather data. As it is sort of a Christmas tradition in Iceland for the press to find at least one person who might be spending Christmas alone and talking to them, DV was on the case.
“I say as Páll Óskar does, ‘I am in fine company with myself.'” he said in a brief interview. “I don’t expect any guests, so I guess I’ll be here alone. I will of course cook some good food, but I won’t be off the clock.”
