Newly-founded political party the Civic Movement, after losing one MP
in the midst of controversy, has lost the remaining three, who have
formed a new party calling itself The Movement.
At a press conference held today, the three MPs announced that The Movement would return to the core platform of the Civic Movement: providing an activist voice in parliament.
The Civic Movement, which was formed last January as a conglomeration of
different interest groups united under the aim of direct democracy,
managed to gain four seats in parliament last spring. However, when one
of their MPs, Margrét Tryggvadóttir, openly questioned the competence
of fellow Civic Movement MP Þráinn Bertelsson in an e-mail that somehow
managed to become public, Bertelsson resigned from the party, keeping
his seat as an independent.
