Written protests have reached Icelandic government offices, according
to Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Financial Affairs Steingrímur
J. Sigfússon.
“We are trying to bring our own point of view forward,” Sigfússon told Morgunblaðið, “I will do so soon, possibly by meeting with some of the largest representatives in this area. And by this I mean larger retail chains and other parties which mean a great deal to us and which aren’t engaging in extreme measures against us.”
The premise of the decision still stands, says Sigfússon, who expressed concerns over protests two weeks ago, when the decision to resume commercial whaling was allowed to continue after it had been renewed by the previous Minister of Fisheries, Einar K. Guðfinnson.
