A conservative MP is less than pleased that at least one food company has decided not to buy Icelandic seafood from companies connected with whaling.
The food company HighLiner Foods, DV reports, has decided to stop buying seafood from the Icelandic company HB Grandi – for which the director of the board is Kristján Loftsson, who is also the director of whaling company Hvalur hf.
Independence Party MP Jón Gunnarsson was frank with reporters on the matter, saying, “We have seen these threats from so-called peace groups, or nature conservation groups, as they like to call themselves. … This is of course nothing other than a form of terrorism.”
Some of the other acts being called “a form of terrorism” can be found on the website Don’t Buy From Icelandic Whalers. These methods include “ask your local supermarket, big-box store, wholesale club or restaurant to verify that their seafood products do not come from a source linked to Icelandic whaling” and “[c]onsider writing to a company’s customer service department and ask them for assurances that their product is not linked to Iceland’s whale hunt.”
