Iceland has chosen the song that will represent the country in Stockholm for Eurovision 2016: Hear Them Calling, by Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir.
RÚV reports that the song barely edged out Now, by Alda Dís. The results reportedly came as a surprise to Greta Salóme.
“I thought that Now would win,” she told reporters. “It’s a fantastic song and it’s been in my head for the past few weeks. I was even afraid of singing it myself.”
This will make the second time Greta Salóme will go to Eurovision for Iceland. Four years ago, she represented Iceland in Baku, Azerbaijan with the song Never Forget.
While it is still just under three months until Iceland will be competing against other countries for the song contest, congratulations for Greta Salóme circulated across social media. Even the Prime Minister felt the need to chime in:
Til hamingju Gréta Salóme og félagar! Þið verðið Íslandi til sóma í Stokkhólmi. #12stig
