The eighth film in the car racing franchise will be filmed in part in humble Akranes. The town’s mayor is reportedly “very interested” in the positive effects this may have on the town.
Vísir reports that part of filming for Fast & Furious 8 will be done in Akranes, a small town in west Iceland. Film crews are due to arrive this April.
“This is of course an extensive project and will have an effect on shops and services in the town,” Akranes mayor Regína Ásvaldsdóttir told reporters. “We are very interested.”
Sources close to Vísir say that, while the exact details of what is to be filmed are not known, it will include one of the largest explosions every detonated in Iceland.
Whether some of the more famous stars from the Fast & Furious franchise will be coming to Iceland is not known. These same sources say that in some cases, filming done in Iceland will be green-screened behind certain actors in post-production.
