The ‘hype bitches’ of Reykjavíkurdætur have just released a video for their new song, “Ég er fyrsta heims hæpið tík“, which Google Translate tells me means, “I am the world’s first doubtful bitch” (and my editor tells me could mean “I am the First World hype, bitch”).
But the girls seem anything but doubtful in this video, directed by Antonía Lárusdóttir, which showcases many controversial things. From armour made of Marlboro Lights containers to live tattooing (perhaps influenced by Shades of Reykjavík?), the video even shows the girls violently assaulting Arnar from Úlfur Úlfur with a pillow.
Though the video does show some cultural appropriation (c’mon guys, native headdresses?), this is fixed by some truely fabulous blue eyeshadow.
The Google Translated lyrics go, “Free booze, free tattoos, I’m the world’s first doubtful bitch. Why am I not a judge in Iceland’s Got Talent?” Hear that Iceland’s Got Talent? 20+ doubtful bitches are ready to judge. Better buy a bigger table.
Reykjavíkurdætur’s official Iceland Airwaves shows are Wednesday at 22:10 (NASA) and Saturday at 20:00 (Reykjavík Art Museum).
