Jón Þór Birgisson, also known as the singer Jónsi from Sigur Rós, has joined forces with Cameron Crowe in composing a new song.
Crowe’s new movie, We Bought A Zoo, will feature songs composed by Jónsi. The main piece, “Score”, as well as “Ævin endar”, were both composed by the singer, while “Gathering Stories” was composed in collaboration with Crowe.
Crowe is apparently a big fan of Jónsi’s work. The singer gave the director some of his solo efforts, as well as work from Sigur Rós, and encouraged him to watch the documentary Heima.
Jónsi says his fascination with Crowe began after watching the movie Almost Famous. From there, they began to be in e-mail contact when Sigur Rós composed songs for the soundtrack to Vanilla Sky. Crowe listened to Jónsi’s solo works, and duly interested, invited him to come to Los Angeles to compose music for a new movie.
After spending a month from ten in the morning until ten at night working in a studio, Jónsi says that “The good thing about composing music for a movie is that you can be focused, and you don’t have all the time in the world to play around.”
The soundtrack for We Bought A Zoo will be out this December.
