Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson, one of Iceland’s richest men and one of the more famous examples of the country’s venture capitalists, has fallen off the Forbes list of the world’s richest people, for the first time in five years.
The list, released yesterday, actually shows no Icelander on the ranking at all. Number one is Mexican telecommunications giant Carlos Slim Helú, followed by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
Björgólfsson appeared first on the list in 2005. In 2008, with an estimated worth of 3.5 billion, he slid down to 307th place from 249th the year previous. Last year, with assets totally about a billion, he landed in 701st place.
