Immigrants seeking Icelandic citizenship are preparing to take an Icelandic language test, as part of a law which went into effect on 1 January 2009 on citizenship requirements.
Registration begins on 1 March, and the test itself begins on 31 May, and more information can be found on namsmat.is. The test costs 7,000 ISK.
The test takes place twice a year, with citizenship awarded in June or December. 476 immigrants took the test last year, most of them from Poland, Thailand, and the Philippines.
