The reputation of Reykjavíkurdætur, Iceland’s feminist rap phenomenon, has spread well beyond the borders of our small country. They recently started a drive on crowdfunding website Karolina Fund to help make their first album—and they’ve already reached their goal. The self-titled album will be released at the end of May. This is a milestone for the rap clan, who’ll be busy performing this summer, including at Roskilde Festival.

We met two of the daughters, Salka Valsdóttir and Anna Tara Andrésdóttir, while they were hard at work in the studio. One of the daughters, Jóhanna Rakel, said: “We have a really awesome new group song, and if you haven’t found your summer track yet, this one is going to be it. We have so much sick material and we’re almost finished, woo!”
Drop this album already, we can’t wait any longer!
