Hello, my name is Pan Thorarensen. I am a musician and co-founder of the Extreme Chill Festival, an annual electronic music event in Snæfellsnes, by the glacier Snæfellsjökull. As our next edition is just around the corner, I wanted to tell you a little bit about the festival and what we have in store.

We’ve been celebrating the Extreme Chill Festival for the last four years at Hellissandur, a village on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, quite a magical place. The seeds of Extreme Chill were sown in August of 2009, when my band Stereo Hypnosis threw a release concert at Hellissandur and surmised it would be the perfect place to assemble a few great electronic musicians and celebrate.

A year later, we put on the first Extreme Chill – Undir Jökli (“under the glacier”) festival, on August 6-8, 2010. And we haven’t looked back since.

The atmosphere at Extreme Chill is very unique, because it takes place in such an amazing environment; with the ocean on your right hand and the mighty Snæfellsjökull glacier on the left; a group of like-minded people in attendance, all there to come and celebrate the music that they love and enjoying one another’s’ company in these truly special surroundings.

Our little festival has been slowly getting more popular every year since, with The Guardian naming it Europe’s most picturesque festival locationin 2012.

This year Extreme Chill will occur on August 7-9, under the looming Snæfellsjökull glacier. This one marks the festival’s six-year anniversary (we celebrated the fifth edition in Berlin last year, with great success).

We’ve got a truly amazing line-up in store for you this year. To name but a few of our confirmed performers, we’ll be seeing artists like Biosphere, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Steindór Andersen, Jafet Melge, Mixmaster Morris, Stereo Hypnosis, Dj flugvél og geimskip, Jónas Sen, Tonik Ensemble, Futuregrapher, Ruxpin, Skurken, Jóhann Eiríksson… and many more!

We strive to keep Extreme Chill an affordable, accessible festival, and thus tickets for the whole event are only 7,900 ISK. Do note that a limited amount of them will for sale this year, so we recommend you get your tickets on time if you’re interested in attending since our last few editions have all sold out.

Extreme Chill also offers alternatives for when you want to take a little break from the music. The festival campsite is just 100 metres from our location, with very nice WC and washing facilities. You can also explore the area, which has some adventurous walking paths as well as beautiful beaches. You’ll furthermore be privy to sunsets like nowhere else in the world, and Snæfellsjökull National Park just around the corner 🙂

Leading up to the festival, we’ll be introducing some of the artists performing through the Grapevine right here, so stay tuned for more Extreme Chill stuff (and possibly a ticket giveaway…).

Stay chilled people

One love,

Pan Thorarensen
