The Freak is Alive sat finished for quite a while, deep Momentum’s vaults of doom, patiently awaiting its day to shine. That came when the record got picked up by the fine folks at Norway’s Dark Essence Records after attending a listening party following the band’s appearance at Roadburn 2014. Like we told you upon its release: what a goddamn masterpiece! This release show marks Momentum’s first local appearance of 2015, and will feature the first live renditions of various songs from the new album—yup, they’re performing the thing in its entirety.
We’re in for a treat.
Since its February release, The Freak Is Alive has been unanimously praised by a multinational choir of metal journalists. Riding high on all that critical acclaim, the band recently played Oslo’s Inferno Festival in Oslo to even more acclaim. To wit: noted metal scholar Vivek Venkatesh, PhD., had this to say about the band’s performance at Inferno: “Momentum brought its progressive-leaning metal to a packed house at Blå, straddling elements of doom and sludge, with a certain precision and tightness that can only come from having existed as a musical unit for a fair bit of time. Their commanding stage presence was refreshing—especially in the context of Inferno, where the crowds can be fairly discerning.”
Witnessing Momentum in action is always a good idea. Double that when they’re celebrating the release of a momentous record.
See you there.
