If you thought winter was over, think again. February is in full swing, with howling winds and freezing temperatures. So why not head inside and let music and art warm you?
Friday
FALK Collective
FALK (Fuck Art Let’s Kill) Collective consists of Auxpan, Oberdada, KRAKKKBOT and AMFJ, artists that make electronic music. Auxpan has been active in the experimental electronic scene since before George W. Bush became president, as has Baldur Björnsson, aka KRAKKKBOT, who has an upcoming album from FALK. Solo artist AMFJ starts the gig playing a kind of (almost) dance music made up of distorted environmental sounds in noise music fashion.
– Mengi at 21:00, admission 2,000 ISK, BYOB.
Kælan Mikla / Russian.Girls
The lasses of Kælan Mikla (“The Great Chill”) are joined by the Russian.Girls, the brainchild of Guðlaugur Halldór Einarsson of Captain Fufanu. Russian.Girls plays a mixture of electronic, lounge and ballad music, while Kælan Mikla stays on the gloomy side of punk-poetry. The concert is a part of the Undiralda (“Undercurrent”) series that showcases the grassroots of Icelandic music on the big stage.
– Harpa at 17:30, free admission
Saturday
Þórir Georg / Knife Fights
Hardcore punker Þórir Georg is joined by new wavers Knife Fights, the one and only Icelandic band whose name reflects how they formed – in a thoroughly epic three-way knife fight. The gig has all the makings of a night to remember, and we expect to hear only more great things from these artists in the future — though hopefully not from a police blotter.
– Dillon at 22:00, free admission
DJ Flugvél og Geimskip / KRAKKBOT / Spy Kids 3D / Urban Lumber
If you are in the mood for a relaxing evening where you can melt into your seat and soberly sip your pint, then this is not the event for you, as it’s an electronic festival at Gamli Gaukurinn! DJ Flugvél og Geimskip is at the forefront, joined by KRAKKBOT, Spy Kids 3D and Urban Lumber. Wear your flashiest clothes and don’t hold back on the dance floor.
– Gamli Gaukurinn at 22:00, admission 500 ISK
Sunday
Revolution: Generation Volcano
Anne Herzog’s new exhibit features a mixture of watercolours, drawings, sculptures and super 8 film videos that were shot on site at Snæfellsjökull and Mount Pelée. Anne depicts a visionary, imaginative, and documentary style perspective on the two volcanic landscapes.
– Nordic House until February 26, Tuesdays to Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00
Trilogy Dance Performance
The Iceland Dance Company’s show ‘Trilogy’ features three separate short plays that each have their own theme. The play ‘Luggage’ seeks inspiration from memory and its constant development, ‘Berserks: Mad as Wolves, Soft as Lambs,’ is spiced with Nordic mythology and athletic displays and ‘Variations’ feature Jean Sibelius’s “Themes and Variations for Solo Cello” played to a solo dance with dancer Ellen Margrét Bæhrenz.
– Borgarleikhúsið at 20:00, admission 4,500 ISK
