Grapevine photographer Matthew Eisman picks his favourite photos from Sónar.
Day 1
Can somebody tell me what mystic frequency GusGus are always tapped into please? Perennially excellent.
Drummers usually don’t get much love from photographers so I make it a point to cover them. My buddy Bassi of Kiriyama Family didn’t let me down.
Muted was one of my happy surprises of Sónar. Didn’t plan on covering him but I left impressed.
Obligatory cell phone shot from the crowd. It’s weird how some people try to document a whole concert with their phones. Put it down people! That’s why I’m here 😉
Day 2
Dynamic lighting, diverse subjects and great tunes. It doesn’t get much better for concert photography.
Probably my favorite set of Sónar. Totally awed by Jon’s sonic wizardry.
Big, beautiful Harpa. Also, branding!
Love the lead singer in shadows. There’s mysterious aura to this one.
Day 3
Getting the shot was more difficult than it seems. The stage + DJ table was really high.
Off-the-charts energy and colorful lighting. I <3 FM Belfast
Can a drummer get some? Keli is a beast!
One of my favorite local bands. New songs are incredible live and can’t wait for the new album.
The girl on the right was losing her shit.
Nothing subtle about Major Lazer’s set. Explosive lighting, bloated bass and lots of action. I’ll take it.
Always a fun challenge to cover bands with lots of members.
I love the delicate gesture Margrét is making with her hands. It’s almost like she’s praying.
