Dirty Beaches Is Prowling The Badlands Of Harpa Tonight!

If you like your music rocking, rolling and blood red in tooth and claw, then we at The Grapevine heartily recommend that you go on down to Harpa tonight for the latest instalment of their “Stop Over” series.
Dirty Beaches, aka Taiwan-born Canadian Alex Zhang Hungtai, has been generating a righteous buzz with his direct music that taps into the mainline of classic rock and roll power and blues minimalism, from “Howling Wolf” to “The Cramps and Suicide,” all the while suffused with a murky “recorded live” feel that harks back to the earliest lo-fi rockabilly recordings. It’s simple, but powerful stuff.
Highly prolific, (his breakthrough album ‘Badlands is actually his third LP release), Dirty Beaches spent the last year touring across the US, Asia and Europe and ‘Badlands’ was nominated for the Canadian Polaris music award.
Dirty Beaches will be joined by revitalised local rock and roll legends Singapore Sling in a concert that would make Frank Booth weak at the knees.
The concert starts at 20:30 at Harpa’s Kaladón Hall. Tickets are available from the Harpa box office, or through www.midi.is.
You can hear his music over at http://dirtybeaches.bandcamp.com/. Below is a video of Dirty Beaches in actions.
