Four young concert organizers, with the help of a young ambitious airline, and a little more than a hundred local bands, have worked together in the past few years to give Iceland a reputation of rock music dynamo. All of October is taken up with the all-around feel-good hysteria during Iceland Airwaves. From the Oktoberfest celebrations, which will feature some of Iceland’s best bands warming up for their Airwaves shows, to a string of small, free concerts and release parties throughout the city, even if you don’t like the word festival, the month of October in Reykjavík belongs to Airwaves.
