Book Sales
Currently going on at both Mál og menning and Penninn, where both stores are offering “3 for 2” sales on many Icelandic titles, especially children’s books. One of the best ways to learn Icelandic is through children’s books, and with titles such as the Mamma Mö series going for 2 for 1,100 ISK, you should be fluent in no time.

Cannonball Run and Condoms
We don’t deny that Tiger is one of our favourite discount stores in the country. This time around, we can highly recommend buying a 400 ISK copy of Cannonball Run on DVD. This 1981 road trip farce features the comedy stylings of Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore and Jackie Chan, starring in the role of “Subaru driver” that officially brought him into Hollywood’s inner circle. In the 200 ISK category, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention that Tiger now sells its own brand of condoms, sold in packs of three and available in either lubricated or extra-thin.

Candy!
Vínberið is one of those places caught in a time warp. While you can find candy in most major supermarkets, candy is all Vínberið sells (well, along with some fruit) and like many other stores, they’re having a sale. Many items – from Maribo chocolate bars to Swiss chocolates – are 30% to 60% off. Also, expect further sales on Valentine’s Day and Öskudagur (1 March). Take advantage of this sale while it lasts – your dentist will thank you later.
