The Grapevine’s loving patriarch Hilmar Steinn Grétarsson took a drive and a small hike last night to check out our favourite event of 2010 thus far – the Eyjafjallajökull/Fimmvörðuháls eruption. He brought along his camera and shot the below videos, which are truly a sight to behold.

Oh it’s only so much lava spewing forth from the bowels of the Earth – nothing you can’t see on a hundred other YouTube videos. But still. It looks amazing. And the sounds are otherworldly, too. Turn up your speakers and listen in awe as the molten lava rumbles and crackles.

And if you have the chance to got there and experience it for yourself, take it (but remember to take care: read the weather report, wear hiking boots and layer upon layer of warm clothing. And lots and lots of food. People have died of exposure up there you know).

Oh, and… wow.
