I always get annoyed when people “stop over” in Iceland for a couple of days, because it always seems like two or three days isn’t enough time to really experience Iceland. Sure, you get to experience the greatness of Reykjavík for two days and then the golden circle. You get to see how a tiny part of Iceland littered with tourists looks like. That’s why we were intrigued when Eagle Air approached us (and paid us) to go on two day trips to Húsavík and Vatnajökull, via Höfn í Hornafirði. Normally going to either Húsavík or Vatnajökull is a three day road trip, because it takes at least six hours to get there by car. The flight there only takes 40 minutes though, so you can leave from Reykjavík in the morning and be back before supper. To visit the places we visited you need to rent a car there.
