Riding off of the success of their second album, ‘Harbinger’, the Brooklyn-based filthy black metal band Mutilation Rites is finishing up its European tour with one last show at Húrra tonight. To celebrate what will undoubtedly be a kick ass concert, we shot a few questions to guitarist and vocalist George Paul.
[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=734257725 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]So tell me, what can Icelandic music fans expect from your show at Húrra?
A shitstorm of fast riffs, tortured vocals, tough d beats and blistering blasts.
Where did the idea of playing in Iceland come from?
Two of my oldest friends respectively have either played or lived in Iceland, so I’ve always wanted an excuse to go back after I took a short trip there a few years ago. I knew I could get some contacts over there and flying with Icelandair is pretty cheap so we wanted to figure out a way to make it work.
You’ve got a long European tour ahead of yourselves before playing in Reykjavík, will you have any merch left for us?
I’m sure we will. We brought a lot of ‘Harbinger’ and ‘Empyrean’ vinyls with us, and we’ve had plenty of shirts printed for us in Italy.
What is the single most brutal thing you’ll do while in Iceland?
Having been to Iceland before I plan on taking the rest of the dudes to the black sand beach in Vík, which was pretty brutal last time I was there. And maybe make somebody eat some hákarl.
