The weather is going to be pretty abysmal this weekend with lots of snow, wind, and rain through Sunday. But that’s not going to get in the way of Steffi and Anna’s plans. Here’s a rundown of what they’re going to get up to, and if nothing tickles your fancy, take a look at our listings website and make your own itinerary.

The Roulette : Alchemia : Elín HelenaFriday

Steffi is going to Bar 11 to see The Roulette / Alchemia / Elín Helena. It’s going to be a night of punk rock that makes you nostalgic for Camden Town in the 70s. But that’s not why Steffi’s going. There is a special offer until midnight with 350 ISK for beer and 1,000 ISK for a beer and a shot.

Greener on the other sideAnna is going to the international video art festival Greener on the other side at Mengi. The films tackle issues facing a globalised generation, which should be interesting. Mostly, the 10-20 minute films appeal to her under-developed attention span. Admission is 2,000 ISK.

Saturday

On Saturday Steffi would like to see Var at Frederiksen Ale House. It’s a low-key event and the band plays calm, soothing music, which will be good for her hangover after tonight’s cheap beer.

jonny cashAnna would like to get tickets to see the Johnny Cash Tribute Concert with John Carter Cash and Páll Rósinkranz at Háskólabíó. John Carter Cash is the only son of the late, great Johnny Cash and he is going to play some of his dad’s hits with singer-songwriter Páll Rósinkranz, American singer Ana Cristina, guitarist Dave Deager from Nashville, Margrét Eir and Valgerður Guðnadóttir. Tickets are 7,990 ISK, and they are going fast. Get them here .

If only these great events were not happening on Saturday night, Steffi and Anna might be able to see them. However, they will both be going to Húrra Grapevine #2 with Singapore Sling and Pink Street Boys. These two great Reykjavík rock bands are sure to put on a show anyone would be sorry to miss… Except perhaps die hard Johnny Cash fans. It’s 1,500 ISK admission, all of which goes to the bands performing, so just head on over there already.

Sunday

‘Stories from Reykjavík’ by Þórdís Erla ÁgústsdóttirOn Sunday they’re both going to the Reykjavík Photography Museum. Steffi is going to see ‘Stories from Reykjavík’ by Þórdís Erla Ágústsdóttir. The exhibit is part of Þórdís’s long-term project ‘Icelanders’ Homes’, and provides insight into the life stories of ordinary people through images of them in their homes.

‘First and foremost I am’ by Sigga EllaAnna is going to see ‘First and foremost I am’ by Sigga Ella, a collection of 21 portraits of people with Down Syndrome between nine months and 60-years-old. The exhibit raises important ethical questions about prenatal diagnoses.
