Happening this weekend: February 27 - March 1

kex annual beer festivalIt may be the end of the shortest month of the year, but it looks to be quite possibly the busiest weekend of them all! In between KEX Hostel’s annual beer festival, Oyama and Brött Brekka’s show at Bar 11, the Rafnæs DJ night at Paloma, and Skerðing, Pink Street Boys and Caterpillarmen at Gaukurinn, there is decidedly too much to go to! To help you choose what to catch, our lovely team of interns have compiled their highlights. For a complete list visit the Listings Page.

Friday

‘Cityscape’ by Snorri Þór Tryggvason, Pétur Stefánsson and Snorri Eldjárn SnorrasonAnna is interested in seeing ‘Cityscape’ by Snorri Þór Tryggvason, Pétur Stefánsson and Snorri Eldjárn Snorrason at SPARK Design Space. She thinks maps are neat, adding “this one took 3,000 hours to make, and is comprised of of 146 A3 size watercolours drawings.”

Victor, the electronic enthusiast, recommends DJ KGB at Kaffibarinn tonight,KGB-artist saying the tracks are a mixture of electronic beats and nice vocals. “It could be fun to go there with friends or alone. You can always get to know new people in this crowded bar.”

York, however, asks what’s better than free beer, answering: “Free beer and stairs! Check out the Grand Opening of Mikkeller & Friends for some tasty suds for the world’s best brewmaster.”

Saturday

Reykjavík Dance Festival- Speaking SolosAnna, having trained as a dancer for years, has her eyes set on Reykjavík Dance Festival’s Speaking Solos show. At the beginning of the month, Bojana Cjevic ran a workshop for choreographers, and today they are going to present the pieces they developed.

Stefanie is torn between seeing Emilíana Torrini with Ensamble X at Húrra, or going to the last day of the Stockfish Film Festival to see ‘What We Do in the Shadows’. After all, it’s a comedy about three vampires living in a shared flat, which must be awesome!

Victor was enthralled with DJ YAMAHO at Sónar, who he had seen before in his home town of Berlin. She’s playing at Dolly tonight, and he says he really likes her deep house music.

Grísalappalísa Album Release PartyYork is intrigued by Grísalappalísa’s EP release concert with Börn and Teitur Magnússon at Gaukurinn. “Why should you go to the Grísalappalísa album release party? It’s probably the best name of a band ever. Ask an Icelander to pronounce it for you. ”

Sunday

Anna likes the sound of Soprano Rannveig Fríða Bragadóttir & Pianist Gerrit Schuil performing poetry by Schubert at Hannesarholt. “Going to listen to some classical music in such a cozy venue seems like a really nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.”

Meanwhile Stefanie is interested in the Bar Ananas Pub Quiz which is in English with cocktails and bottles of rum for the winners.

UnPeuPlusHaving fallen in love with the Museum of Design and Applied Art’s previous exhibition, he’s eager to see their new exhibit. “It is called ‘Un Peu Plus’ and is about haute couture drawings and paintings as well as pieces from the runway by Helga Björnsson.
