DIMMA

Hailing from the land of ice and snow, heavy metal band DIMMA is a musical entity whose sound reflects the atmosphere of the long dark winters of Iceland; Hard and heavy, yet chillingly refreshing in all it´s melancholic glory.
Founded in 2004 by brothers Ingo Geirdal (guitar) and Silli Geirdal (bass) Dimma quickly gained national attention with their self-produced, self-titled debut opus DIMMA (released in Iceland in 2005). The album gave the band their first national radio hit “Big Bad Mama” and landed Dimma a supporting slot for Alice Cooper, who was impressed with the band´s powerful live performances.
This was followed by Dimma´s first U.S. club tour and a trip to Spain to write new material and film a music video trilogy for their second album STIGMATA. A concept album that begins with birth and ends with death, STIGMATA (released in Iceland in 2008) spawned two more national radio hits for Dimma with ”Dimmey” and “Mama“ and featured a guest appearance by original Alice Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway.
In the spring of 2011, Dimma began a new and exciting phase of their career as energetic lead singer Stefan Jakobsson and powerhouse drummer Birgir Jonsson joined forces with brothers Silli and Ingo Geirdal to take Dimma to new heights, both musically as well as visually on stage. A limited edition promo EP titled DOGMA (2011) featured new live recordings of concert favourites from the first two albums and gave an insight into what was soon too come with “Þungur Kross”, the bands first single that was sung entirely in Icelandic.
The sincerity of their lyrics, combined with their distinctive heavy sound, hit a nerve with fans in Iceland and inspired Dimma to write their next album in their native language.
The band spent the majority of the next year writing, rehearsing and recording new material and trying it out at concerts and festivals before finally confining themselves to the studio to complete their latest album MYRKRAVERK. A concept album dealing with the darker sides of life, MYRKRAVERK (released November 2012) is Dimma´s most critically acclaimed and successful album to date, reaching #3 on the national best selling albums list and producing 3 radio chart singles with “Þungur Kross”, “Myrkraverk” and “Sólmyrkvi”.
The year 2013 promises to be the most exciting yet for Dimma, with a live DVD and Vinyl release of MYRKRAVERK in the works, as well as some of the biggest live shows the band has ever played.
