More details are coming in about fugitive Sindri Þór Stefánsson‘s final hours in Iceland before catching a plane to Sweden. He very likely had help in his escape, and his trail is growing colder by the hour.
RÚV reports that Sindri ordered his plane ticket an hour before catching his flight to Sweden, under the name of another person, but used his own credit or debit card to pay for it. He arrived at the airport by taxi, and police are still trying to locate the driver.
Security cameras show Sindri wearing a black cap, blue jeans and running shoes. He also brought hand luggage with him, and was carrying a laptop – although likely not one of the 600 computers he is accused of having taken part in stealing.
Police admit that the trail is growing colder, but they remain optimistic that they will be able to locate him. It is unknown at this time if he is even still in Sweden.
As reported, Sindri did not need to use a passport to travel, as he was traveling from and to a country in the Schengen region. Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir was also on the flight, but has not as yet commented on the matter.
