US Woman Searching For Icelandic Classmate She Knew In 1962

An American woman from Ann Arbor, Michigan is currently in Iceland searching for an Icelandic classmate she last saw in 1962 when she was in the third grade, reports Vísir.

“When I was eight, I was in the third grade in Northside elementary in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the school year 1961-1962,” said Cherie Lockett. “Then I was lucky enough to meet Helgi from Iceland.”

Pictures of you

The only information she has about the mystery man is his first name and a picture (above) of the then eight year old.

“It was always fun meeting kids from faraway lands. Helgi was a complete favourite, with his light complexion–friendly and curious,” said Cherie. “He had a beautiful smile and red hair that put him apart from others. He came from a country that seemed so far away.”

Just like heaven

In her mind Helgi came from an incredibly fun place that was made even more special when his mother spent an afternoon with their class discussing Iceland.

“All these years later, I am still starry eyed and I always hoped that one day I would visit Reykjavík,” she said. “I am here as so many other tourists, except I have memories and a school photo of Helgi’s beautiful, innocent smile.”

Cherie arrived in Iceland Tuesday and will stay until next week hoping she will meet her old friend with the beautiful smile.

If you recognise the picture, or maybe just know a Helgi (we have one in the office and we asked him whether it was him, sadly, the answer was no) then contact Cherie Lockett.

Good luck Cherie.
