Over the past day, employees from the Environment Agency of Iceland in Surtsey have fought to help a seal cow that has a rope entangled around her neck

In a Facebook post by the agency, Þórdís Vilhelmína Bragadóttir said that the cow has difficulties breathing and that she returns often to shore to rest, with the rope clearly draining her strength. The cow, however, has sharp teeth and snaps at rescue workers and hurries back into the ocean when approached.

Seal whisperers wanted

We at the Grapevine are very concerned for the cow and have, therefore, decided to send out a plea to all seal whisperers to come to her aid. So, if you happen to among those able to speak Seal, then please email sealsafety@grapevine.is – time is of the essence.

Until then, Þórdís has assured us that further rescue operations will be undertaken.
