Last week, police were called to the house of Hafþór “The Mountain” Björnsson, following reports of domestic disturbance by neighbours.
Fréttablaðið reports that Hafþór had barred his ex-girlfriend her from leaving and grabbed her when she tried to escape. This is the third time in just over six months that police have had to intervene due to Hafþór’s behaviour towards the woman. During a couple of those incidents Hafþór has inflicted bruises on the woman, with the most recent of those taking place December 30 last year.
A dogged dog deed
“I have no interest in commenting on this,” Hafþór told Fréttablaðið. “This is a sensitive, private matter and I’m saddened by being made to look like a bad guy.”
According to Hafþór, the incident revolves around a dog he and his ex share custody over.
“The dog’s name is Ástríkur and last Thursday it was my time to have him. She doesn’t like me to be with him and wished to come over, but I wanted to keep the dog over night. This is an amazing dog and I love him. You know how breakups can be, tempers can flair and you argue.”
Hafþór claims that he had been willing to discuss the matter calmly, but that the ex-girlfriend in question had tried to take the dog away forcefully.
“She said she wanted to talk, so once again I’m duped like an idiot, because as soon as I sat down she takes off running. That startled me, so I run after her and grab her sweater. This makes some noise and then a neighbour calls the police.”
