A new poll from Market and Media Research sheds light on what kinds of people play Pokémon Go in Iceland.
According to the results, 6.4% of Icelanders play the game regularly. Another 14.3% have tried it, but do not play it often, while 79.3% have never played Pokémon Go. The demographic breakdown gives a more detailed picture.
Only slightly more men than women play Pokémon Go, but just over 48% of Icelanders who have either tried the game or play it regularly are aged 18 to 29. Similarly, 51.5% of those who have played or do play Pokémon Go are students.
Income level made no difference, although there is a slightly increasing likelihood of being a Pokémon Go player the higher the level of education they have completed.
Most strikingly, those who do not support the government were significantly more likely to be Pokémon Go players than those who vote for the Progressives or the Independence Party – 25.5% of those who play or have played Pokémon Go said they do not support the ruling coalition, compared to just 10% of those who support the government.
