Russian tourists expressed the highest level of satisfaction with their visit to Iceland, while Japanese tourists were the least impressed, according to the results of a new poll from Ferðapuls Ísavia, the Icelandic Tourist Board, and Gallup.
Vísir reports that the poll was conducted over last June and July, in an attempt to gauge peoples’ overall experience with their visit to Iceland. From a scale of 0 to 100, Iceland did quite well for itself, with an average score of 85. Between different nationalities, though, there were stark contrasts.
Russians were far and away the happiest with their experiences of Iceland, giving an average score of 90.8. Japanese tourists were, by contrast, the least satisfied, having on average given the country a 74.
One trend that stands out is that the longer people spent in Iceland, the higher the score they gave the country. Those who only stayed a night or two were the most likely to rate their experience low.
In addition, it was found that hotel stays were highest during the winter months, whereas in the summer, tourists were more likely to book AirBnB listings or stay in guesthouses. 22% of all visitors said they used AirBnB to meet their accommodation needs.
