Free-roaming sheep are reportedly doing extensive property damage in a corner of northeast Iceland.
RÚV reports that the sleepy Icelandic town of Fjallabyggð has been recently contending with numerous complaints about sheep on the loose who have been engaging in extensive property damage in the area.
Sheep have reportedly wandered into the local cemetery, eating up a considerable amount of vegetation, but the sheep have also extended their reach to include local reforestation areas, and are also doing significant damage to a new golf course that is slated to open next year.
Valtýr Sigurðsson, who runs the company maintaining the golf course, told reporters that the sheep are a matter of great concern, as sheep and high-class golf courses do not go well together (not for golfers, anyway).
Currently, local residents are working with municipal authorities to try and find a solution to the problem. Until then, area sheep will continue to graze with impunity.
