About half of the visitors to Iceland who took part in a Gallup poll at the request of Landsvirkjun, Iceland’s largest power company, expressed an interest in visiting these power plants.
Kjarninn reports that, in addition, 97% of these visitors were positive towards renewable energy in the country, and 75% believe that this energy has a positive effect on how they experience Icelandic nature.
Of these participants, 37% agreed that an increase in renewable energy sources would increase the likelihood of visiting Iceland again.
Landsvirkjun believes the survey shows opportunities in energy tourism in the upcoming years. Hörður Arnarson, CEO of Landsvirkjun, says the survey confirms the claim that “Iceland is the image of integrated renewable energy.”
“Iceland is a land of green energy in the eyes of tourists,” he says. “They’re impressed by all our renewable energy production.”
The poll did not ask for respondent opinions on individual power plants, but Landsvirkjun intends to prepare additional surveys to cover this subject with tourists as well.
