The largest tremours since the eruption ended have been recorded around the Bárðarbunga volcano.

RÚV reports that quakes measuring up to 4.4 on the Richter scale were recorded around Bárðarbunga at about 7:00 this morning. This marks the largest seismic activity recorded around the volcano since the eruption ceased in February 2015.

Some 20 aftershocks were recorded in the wake of the tremours, the largest one measuring 3.3.

While scientists do not yet have reason to believe another eruption is imminent, they are still monitoring the area closely for increased activity. The Grapevine will keep readers updated in the event an eruption occurs.
