There is no need to worry about political correctness taking away the simple pleasure of the “Man of the Year” award as nominations are out and while 3 women have made the cut, we can collectively sigh with relief that at least 8 men have been nominated too.
Visir reports that after sifting through thousands of nominations they managed to narrow it down to the following candidates:

Police officers Guðmundur Viðar Berg and Halldór Sigurbergur Sveinsson who saved the lives of two young boys who got stuck in a small manmade waterfall by the dam Reykdalsstífla in Lækurinn, a stream in the town of Hafnarfjörður.
The naked guy, Almar Atlason, who lived and ate and jerked off in a box for a week.
Nice guy, Sævar Helgi Bragason, who delivered solar eclipse glasses for all elementary school children in the country so they could enjoy this year’s epic solar eclipse.
The Icelandic Search and Rescue Services who, let’s face it, volunteer their time and risk their lives to help people in need.
Volunteer, Þórunn Ólafsdóttir, who travelled to Lesbos and worked tirelessly to help refugees crossing to Europe by boat.
Nurse, Ásta Kristín Andrésdóttir, who was charged, then later acquitted of involuntary manslaughter after the death of a patient who three years ago suffocated in the intensive care unit shortly after being taken off a respirator.
Sigrún Þ. Geirsdóttir, who became the first Icelandic woman to swim across the English Channel. It took Sigrún 22 hours and 34 minutes.
