It would seem the only thing in the news yesterday and today is the #rvkstormpocalypse, so here’s a quick round up of all the varying ways in which the storm has bummed Iceland.
One man was sad to see his car destroyed by a fence that he did not recognise. “I have no idea where the fence came from,” Birkir Karlsson told Vísir. “But it hammered my car.” RIP car.
One boat docked to the harbour came loose during the storm but luckily, it was saved before being swept to sea. Unfortunately two other boats in Reykjavík harbour were not so lucky and have sunk. RIP boats.
Though roof tiles seem to be flying all over the place, a whole roof was peeled away in Lambafell. RIP roof.
Schools throughout the country have been cancelled today (Tuesday) though the schools in the capital city are expected to be open.
Buses won’t be driving before 08:00 am but should start up again then. Whether they will run on time is anyone’s guess.
Domestic flights before noon are most likely cancelled or delayed but you should be able to keep tabs on that here.
Iceland’s Search and Rescue teams have closed 600 kilometres of road and have had to answer 250 calls for help since the storm began. Thanks for being great Search and Rescue squads! #squadgoals
Blackouts have been plaguing the country and the storm has been interrupting television and radio broadcasts.
The Oslo Christmas tree had to be dismantled before the storm so it didn’t fly about and destroy the surrounding properties. Hope to see you again soon Oslo Christmas tree!
Last but not least, the police expect the traffic to be something akin to the lowest circle of hell this morning.
