Heavy snow has necessitated the police telling all residents of Grafarvogur and Grafarholt to stay indoors.
The capital area police posted the advisory on their Facebook page, warning people living in the east Reykjavík neighbourhood that the weather is still not cooperating.
“The capital area police advise people in Grafarvogur and Grafarholt to keep themselves indoors today due to the weather and traffic complications in the area,” they write. “The Rescue Squad is at work, and are prioritising saving people, i.e., to free those stuck in vehicles, rather than to tow vehicles that are stuck.”
In an update on that same post, posted at 14:25, the police say that road conditions are “for the most part” cleared, “although there are still major difficulties on some residential streets”.
If you live in Grafarvogur or Grafarholt, now would be a good time to catch up on organising that closet space you have ignored since last summer. Residents might also speculate on how this situation might have been different if calls for secession from Reykjavík were heeded.
