The annual ice skating rink is coming back to Ingólfstorg this Tuesday.
After its grand unveiling, Vísir reports, the rink will be open from noon until the evening every day until December 23. Admission will be free, and the skateless need not worry – you can also rent skates, and even special ice skate walkers for kids and those not so confident in their skating skills.
Hjálmar Sveinsson, the chairperson of the Environmental and Planning Committee for Reykjavík, told reporters that the rink will not be the only thing at Ingólfstorg for the holidays.
“[Icelandic telecom] Nova offered to take care of this,” he said. “That means part of Ingólfstorg will be an ice rink, and part of it will be a Christmas market,” wherein little cabins will be selling wares such as gloves, Christmas trees, and other accoutrements.
Turning Ingólfstorg into an ice rink has been practiced since 2006. Braver souls are also welcome to attempt skating the Tjörnin pond when it freezes over.
