The humpback whale that was freed from tangled netting last August has apparently made a full recovery, and even has a name.
RÚV reports that the whale was spotted last Monday in Faxaflói Bay. The whale’s sores from the netting have reportedly completely healed, and its movements are back to normal.
In fact, the whale has been playful with whale watching boats, and has even been given a name: Nettie.
CORRECTION: The good people at IceWhale have informed us that the aforementioned “Nettie” was in fact found caught in netting last August in Faxaflói Bay, and was given this name while it was still tangled in the net. Representatives of whale watching companies, the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority, and foreign specialists were in attendance to assist in freeing Nettie.
