A tour company is looking into setting up a bus line that would take people from Keflavík International Airport directly to Akureyri.
RÚV reports that the tour bus company Gray Line is exploring the possibility. The tentative plans would entail a bus leaving from the airport in the afternoon, arriving in Akureyri at some point around midnight. There would be two trips per week between the towns.
Gray Line said in a statement to the press that the idea would not only encourage tourists to spend more time in the north of Iceland; it would also be especially convenient for those who only have matters to attend to in the north, and have no desire to stop in the capital area first.
As it is, those desiring to head north from Keflavík must first get off at the BSÍ bus terminal in Reykjavík, and then book a new passage north from there – either by bus, or by nearby domestic flight.
