The curious case of the projectile vomiting MP continues to develop, with conflicting stories of his health coming from fellow MPs. According to Progressive Party whip Þórunn Egilsdóttir he’s seriously ill and on strong medication, although Pirate Party MP Birgitta Jónsdóttir said “He was in high spirits [yesterday], joking around and making fun of the opposition,” according to Vísir.
“I must have been bloody drunk on the way home and at the Pentagon and other places where we had meetings if that was the cause of my projectile vomiting,” Ásmundur Einar Friðriksson told DV on Tuesday. When asked if he had a problem with alcohol he answered “No what? I’ve never heard that before. I’m the last MP that has a drinking problem.”
The MP still says he has a stomach flu, taking a two week long sick leave from parliament today. Stomach flu usually resolves in a week, according to Wikipedia. A timeline of the events so far is as follows:
May 10 Ásmundur projectile vomits over the passengers on the flight to Washington, D.C.
May 10 – 13 Ásmundur continues to projectile vomit at various places in Washington, D.C. including the Pentagon and then on the flight home.
May 19 [12:46] Ásmundur is contacted by the Icelandic media, confesses to vomiting and claims he has a doctors appointment soon. He’s working and claims he’s feeling better.
May 19 [afternoon] An Independence Party MP, Vilhjálmur Bjarnason, contacts the media and claims nothing happened on board.
May 19 [17:35] Many witnesses claim Ásmundur was drinking excessively on board.
May 20 [11:11] Vilhjálmur Bjarnason retracts his statement that nothing happened on board.
May 20 [afternoon] Ásmundur is still at work, looking healthy and making fun of the opposition.
May 20 [16:00] According to Progressive whip Þórunn Egilsdóttir, Ásmundur is seriously ill, on strong medication, bedridden and on sick leave.
May 21 [10:43] Ásmundur takes sick leave for two weeks.
