Björk today unveiled some more fresh video relating to “Vulnicura”. This time it’s a “moving album cover” clip, featuring an excerpt of the track “Family,” made in collaboration with Andrew Thomas Huang. He is also the director of the “Black Lake” video currently on show in MoMA.
The video starts off with Björk frozen in a tortured poise, a bit like Han Solo in Return of the Jedi, except more uncomfortable. The camera skims the oily black surfaces of her figure and surroundings. But soon, this imprisoned version of Björk finds its way back into the mossy, wide-open spaces of Iceland, where it slowly heals itself and comes back to life.
The alternative artwork for the physical version of “Vulnicura” came as a bit of a surprise after the digital cover, which features Björk as that distinctive heartbreak-avatar with lank hair, pale skin and a protective halo around her head. But it makes sense as part of the album’s visual world in the context of this new video. The CD/vinyl version of the album will feature both covers, and is available to order now.
