Lovely And Mysterious

Hippie goths of Veronica Falls are boozed up and ready (so they tell us) for the debauchery that is Iceland Airwaves. They tell us they’re inspired by neo-psychedelia and enjoy a good World War II documentary.

Hippie goths of Veronica Falls are boozed up and ready (so they tell us) for the debauchery that is Iceland Airwaves. They tell us they’re inspired by neo-psychedelia and enjoy a good World War II documentary. Though they’ve left us with unanswered questions, we have a good feeling about them…

Tell us a little bit about yourself: who you are, what you do, why you do it. Remember: Hype is for PR departments, honesty is for musicians.
We’re a four-piece band from London. We play together as we enjoy doing it. Also, it’s great to travel around and meet interesting people.

Do you have anything special you want to accomplish by coming to Iceland? If so, what?
I’ve heard about these hot springs you can sit in? I haven’t researched this so I may be wrong. But if they have them, I’m in.

LIVING THE DREAM

We won’t have you pin yourself down in a genre, but maybe you can tell us what musicians you hope your fans also like. What music inspires you?
I hope our fans like The Byrds, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, etc. We’re inspired by the darker side of pop music and neo-psychedelia.

And what would you want to tell our readers, to convince them to come to your show (remember: you are not in marketing, you are an artist)?
Hopefully we’ll be living the dream and things will all fall into place. I can’t guarantee any wild dancing or that kind of stuff but I’m sure it will be pretty entertaining

What got you making music in the first place? What kept you playing?
The Beatles, Buddy Holly.

What do you like these days? Anything we should know about?
Mainly bands from the late ‘60s. I like some of the Real Estate and Girls tracks. The Rain Parade are one of my favourites.

What are your other current obsessions? Are you reading/watching/eating anything really good these days?
Vox amplifiers, apple crumble, documentaries about WWII, Fassbinder films, Seinfeld, Pizza.

Make a five track playlist for your plane ride over. Tell us why each track is there. Your scenario: you’re just about to land, and you want to mentally prepare yourself for whatever you think is going to meet you.

1. I Haven’t Got the Nerve, by The Left Banke
2. Season of the Witch, by Donovan
3. Sitting, by The Bachs
4. Tried So Hard, by Gene Clark
5. High Flying Bird, by Jefferson Airplane

These are all there as they are favourites of mine. And if the plane was to go down I’d want to be listening to something like this. I’ll have mentally prepared for Iceland by drinking as much alcohol as they’ll give me on the plane.
